ABOUT

MISSION
The MACK FOUNDATION, a non-profit organization founded by Heinz Mack in 2024, is dedicated to the collection, exhibition and preservation of Heinz Mack’s art and archive. The Foundation holds a substantial collection of artworks, covering all groups of works from his artistic oeuvre. It also preserves an extensive archive of original documents, notes and publications on the artist’s life and work.
The objectives of the Foundation include promoting public knowledge, awareness and appreciation of the work. The preservation of the artistic legacy through the continuous development, maintenance and expansion of the collection and archive as well as the promotion of academic work and its publications, whether in the field of art history or in related areas that reveal points of contact with Mack’s work, interests and intentions. The Foundation also endeavours to intensify communication and cooperation with museums, collections and comparable institutions and to promote exhibitions and publications.

COLLECTION
This includes works from Mack’s time at the Academy, the ZERO period as well as the Sahara Project, Dynamic Structures, Chromatic Constellations, installations, sculptures, stelae, reliefs, rotors, kinetic objects, ceramics, drawings, pastels, ink drawings, collages, photographs, models and sketches. These are to be made accessible to the public through exhibitions and permanent loans to museums and comparable institutions.

ARCHIVE
The MACK FOUNDATION maintains, preserves and enhances the extensive archive relating to Heinz Mack’s life and work. This contains a comprehensive collection of original documents and materials. These include publications, magazines and newspaper articles, photographs, films, sound recordings, briefs, sketches, correspondence, interviews, catalogs and exhibition materials, projected ideas, models for sculptures, installations and projects in public spaces, passports and travel documents.
In addition, all works by Heinz Mack are registered and documented according to image, title, date, size, medium, provenance as well as publication and exhibition history. Records are constantly updated through research and correspondence. Owners of works attributed to Heinz Mack are requested to register their works in the archive and to inform the MACK FOUNDATION of any changes in their collections. The archive is pleased to support scholarly research and its publication as well as the work of curators, but is not open to the public.

CERTIFICATES
Institutions, auction houses, art dealers and private individuals can inquire with the MACK FOUNDATION about the authenticity of works by Heinz Mack. Certificates of authenticity* can be issued on request, with the exception of prints. All inquiries will be treated confidentially. The information and images provided will be included in the Foundation’s archive and can be used for future catalogue raisonnés. The Foundation cannot provide valuations of artworks.
* To clarify the authenticity of a questionable work of art by Heinz Mack we need:
Photos of the front, reverse, signature and dating or other markings, inscriptions, details or stickers.
Furthermore, the dimensions of the work, details of the acquisition (when, where and from whom?) and, if available, receipts, invoices, delivery notes or similarly informative documents on provenance.
The costs for authentication and certification will be communicated to you upon request.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Ute Mack, President – Chair of the MACK FOUNDATION Executive Board
In January 1985, Ute Mack began her work in the studio of Professor Heinz Mack. She gradually restructured and managed the overall organization of the studio, a role she fulfilled until today. Her responsibilities encompassed managing exhibitions, publications including catalogues raisonnés and overview the extensive archive. At the end of 1985, she married Heinz Mack. At Heinz Mack’s request, Ute Mack assumes the role of Chair of the MACK FOUNDATION Executive Board.
Marc Mack, Vice President
With many years of experience in sales and brand development, Marc Mack has established himself as a skilled leader in the business world. As the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Atelier Prof. Heinz Mack, he is responsible for all sales and commercial matters. Together with his wife, Maria Valeria Mack, he successfully leads the Atelier Mack into its second generation.
Prof. Dr. Robert Fleck
Robert Fleck studied with Gilles Deleuze and Michel Foucault, among others. In 1998 he curated 100 Years of Vienna Secession and Manifesta 2. From 2004-2008 he was the director of the Deichtorhallen Hamburg and from 2009-2012 the director of the Bundeskunsthalle Bonn. In 2007 he curated the Austrian pavilion at the Venice Biennale. Since 2012, he has been as Professor of Art and the Public at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and was its Vice-Rector from 2013-2023. He is the author of 45 books on art, literature and politics of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries.
Daniel Hermes
Daniel Hermes is the head of the tax department at NATIONAL-BANK AG and also serves as a Managing Director of NATIONAL-BANK Vermögenstreuhand GmbH. Before taking on these roles, he was a Partner at BEITEN BURKHARDT Rechtsanwaltsgesellschaft mbH and worked as a full-time lecturer at the Landesfinanzschule NRW. He helds a degree in finance from the Ministry of Finance – Landesfinanzschule NRW – and a master degree from JurGat, University of Münster. His area of expertise is tax law.
Dr. Jochen Kissling
Jochen Kissling has been practicing law for over 25 years and for 14 years has been a partner at Dr. Ganteführer, Marquardt & Partner in Düsseldorf. He pursued his law studies at the Universities of Würzburg, Aberystwyth in Wales and Munich (LMU). He later completed a doctorate at the University of Münster, majoring on electronic payment systems on the Internet. His areas of expertise include corporate law, the law concerning charitable foundations, art law and IT law.
ADVISORY BOARD
Felix Heinrichs
Mayor of the City of Mönchengladbach, a city in Germany where he was born. Heinrichs pursued his studies in history and political science at Heinrich Heine University in Düsseldorf, graduating with a master’s degree in 2012. Following his studies, he joined his family’s residential care facility business as Managing Director, before he was elected Mayor of the City of Mönchengladbach in 2020. Heinrichs’ political career began with his involvement in the Social Democratic Party (SPD), where he served as Chairman of the SPD parliamentary group on Mönchengladbach City Council from 2014 to 2020.
Prof. Dr. Thomas Lange
Professor Dr. Thomas A. Lange started his professional career at Deutsche Bank in 1992 after studying law in Germany and abroad. After holding various positions – also in Germany and abroad – he was appointed a member of the Executive Board in 2001. 2007, he followed a call from National-Bank as Spokesman of the Board. Four years later he was appointed Chairman of the Board. Lange is a member of numerous supervisory and advisory boards. He also holds honorary professional, academic and social/cultural positions.
